Hi, this is Clash reporting on the newest news of all!! Mr.Twist (my husband) has joined in on the fun! He is a super duper balloon twister, who can make the most simple little doggies to giant colorful creations, both recognizable and non. Together we make a fantastic team to bring lots of laughs to parties in our area! As an economist and photographer from Argentina, Mr.Twist wound up doing volunteer work for an organization that I taught face painting at. Now we are busy creating body painted images for model's portfolios, running our online store JestPaint.com together, and popping up at the coolest parties near you! We both carry Entertainer's Insurance through the World Clown Association.
CLASH'S HISTORY
I am the clown on the left with the red wig and white hat.
My real name is Anna Wilinski. I was born in El Paso, Texas in 1979 to my wonderful parents, Jerry and Donna Wilinski. I have a sister Jenna, who is 2 years older than me. We were raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan...and this is where all the clowning around began.
Clownology 1- My mom met a new parent at my school (St. Augustine) when I was 10 years old. Her name is Jan Gibes, and her clown name was Sparkle. I had wanted to join a clown ministry to deliver helium balloons to hospitals, because I was compassionate and I loved balloons! My mom and Jan decided to put their noses together, and they started a clown ministry at my school. I remember putting on my first face...oh I looked like a watermelon cut in half!
Clownology 2-
Circle of Smiles was born! My friends and I, plus some younger kids, learned all about clowning. We went to conventions in Michigan to learn from the best, and we put on shows for individual classrooms and the entire school whenever we could. It was awesome! We twisted balloons, painted faces and ran silly clown health clinics at school festivals. We sang and danced, shot ourselves out of cannons, the whole works!
Clownology 3-
After I was 12 my friends clowned less, and I clowned more! My mom and I were a super team and we started entertaining for private and public parties. I took one summer off in high school after so much clowning around. Since then I have been out on the town with my paints and balloons nearly every weekend.
Clownology 4-
I honed in on my face painting skills in high school, but really went wild once I moved to California in 1999 to see if I could support myself out there with just a suitcase of clown supplies! With the help of an old time pen pal at UCLA and wonderful people God sent in my life, I painted and clowned all over Los Angeles county. I spent summers painting on Venice Beach and at huge flea markets and for Johnny Rebb’s restaurants. I went t o school in the fall and spring at Cerritos Community College.
Clownology 5-
In 2002 I came back to Michigan. I wanted to be close to my family, especially after 9-11. I started up my own business here clowning at parks, and music festivals. By the end of the summer I was taking off around the city having so much fun entertaining. I was invited to train the summer stock cast at the Barn Theater to apply their make-up for the production of CATS! It was so exciting!
I started to specialize in full face painting because I loved to see the imagination and transformation that took place in the children and adults. Fun, bold faces created an amazing atmosphere!
Clownology 7 I placed second overall in the masters competitions at the world's biggest face painting convention in Orlando Florida, in 2007, which was a super exciting honor! I also attended the convention in 2009 winning a creative cat contest put on by the organizer, Mama Clown. In 2009 I graduated from WMU in their Elementary Education Program, after an amazing internship experience at Woods Lake Elementary in Ms. Loveberry's Class. I keep going back to California to paint with other artists or on my own. I have returned to paint at the OC's massive Persian Festival and even for the birthdays of some well know stars. In the fall of 2010 I am teaching at the Living Canvas convention in San Jose.
Clownology 8- I live in Vine neighborhood with my my daughter Oceana, who is now 7 years old. I got married in April 2010 to Santi Massano, also know as MR. TWIST! He is an economist and fantastic photographer from Argentina. We are getting a baby boy ready to make his appearance in early April! Painting with a round tummy is always fun! After 20 years of clowning around, I still enjoy it! I am transitioning to being a silly artist much more than painting my face as a clown. Kids love me no matter how I dress, and I feel more comfortable these days being silly without the red nose! A lot of people ask me what I am planning on next. I love running my own business and being the small town celebrity with our kids, and it is so nice to be close to my parents while raising my daughter. I can still go Wild in Kalamazoo too! In the Fall of 2009 I published my first body painting calendar as a fundraising project for a friend doing volunteer work in Africa. It is on sale at www.jestpaint.com, where I also sell face paints to other entertainers and kids and parents with an artistic itch. I hope to someday open a Body Art Gallery where people can come in and get painted and get their pictures taken by a professional photographer (my Husband, Santiago Massano), and also show large prints of my creations. As of now we do our makeovers from our home studio or for other photographers and models. In the summer of 2010 we published a step by step face painting book, Face Painting with Clash. We have done 3 art shows showcasing our body painted images, twice at the Park Trades Center, and once at Urban Hair Solon downtown. I teach face painting a lot on youtube and now at national conventions. I really feel like the sky is the limit if I keep doing what I love!
There is more to this story, which I will add to over time. Thank You for your interest and appreciating my art and fun interaction with kids and adults all over K-Zoo!
